bug spray…

6 Jul

…seems like over the never-ending winter, i think about summer a lot. in my mind, on those very cold days, it is the ideal time of year. but of course, i never, never remember the bugs that come with the rain and heat. oooh the bugs. mosquitos the worst of them, of course. i wanted to make my own mosquito repellent this year – we’ve had really great natural lotions in the past, but sometimes i want to be able to spray something on my clothes too. so without doing much research i came up with this easy concoction:

water + cintronella essential oil (20-30 drops) + lavender oil (10 drops) + rosemary oil (10 drops)

i used little metal spritz bottles from the dollar store that maybe hold about 1/2 cup of water. the citronella oil seems to be key (about $7 for a little bottle, but it will probably last for 20 bottles of spray), and you could probably add others if you have them around. i find this to be pretty effective if sprayed often, and i can use it on ella. the best part is that you don’t feel like you have to take a shower, just to get the bug spray smell off. anyway, if you’re into essential oils (or know someone who is and can mooch!) it’s worth a try…

(as you can tell, we’re loving our neighborhood parks lately!)
